Overview
PolarBakes is a small home-run bakery specialising in custom cakes and baked goods for local events. Their original Squarespace website was visually appealing but suffered from poor loading times and lacked the flexibility needed to support SEO best practices. In addition, the monthly subscription was disproportionately high for the bakery’s budget and needs. PolarBakes approached us to explore a more efficient, performance-driven solution.
The Solution
We migrated the entire site off Squarespace onto a lightweight, custom-built static site hosted on a self-managed VPS. This allowed for better performance tuning, near-instant load times, and complete control over on-page SEO optimisations. We compressed and lazy-loaded images, used server-side caching, and ensured all content adhered to structured data guidelines to enhance search engine visibility. The move also brought an 80% reduction in ongoing hosting costs.
